A fun November so far!

We have been busy this November. Earlier this month we met our kindergarten buddies in Mrs. Walker's class. We plan to partner read with them once a month for the remainder of the year!

We also worked on our first group project- learning about spiders. It was a great learning experience and we talked a lot about what worked and what was difficult.

Melting Candy in Science!

Today we worked in groups to look at the different
melting points of candy.

This tied into our science study on matter and when
certain solids can turn to liquids.

This was a tempting experiment but we did it! We played and
worked with candy WITHOUT eating it!

Our first Audubon walking trip

Our theme this year seems to be warm! Yesterday was an unseasonably warm day out on the field but we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the experience.

There will be two more Audubon visits this year-one in the winter
and a final visit in the spring!

What a great start to the year!

We have had a HOT WONDERFUL start to the 2018-2019 school year! Lots of fun getting to know each other and warming up our brains to learn so much together this year.

The heat finally broke on Friday and we enjoyed "Saving Fred" in small groups. Such creative ideas from every group! We also had lots of laughs during this activity!

And many groups truly did "save" Fred!

Welcome 2018-2019 2nd Graders!

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and have been having lots of fun and finding some time to read too!
We just got home from Disney World and boy did we have fun!

You won't need any supplies for the new school year for our classroom but there are a few things you should keep at home to help make homework assignments easier.

  • pencils and erasers
  • a set of colored pencils
  • a ruler with inches and centimeters
  • a kid friendly dictionary (let me know if you need help finding a good one!)
  • a good selection of books you enjoy reading-the Boxford library has some great ones
Some students like to bring in their own homework folder and that is more than ok. Please just make sure it is a plastic folder instead of a paper folder. I have plenty of plastic folders in the classroom as well and you are welcome to use one of those too.

You will be getting a postcard from me soon but in the meantime if you are reading this have mom or dad send me a picture or two of you having fun this summer. We can share some of our fun summer memories when we get together on August 29th!

Please email me the pictures:
asalerno@boxfordschools.org

Can't wait to see you in a few weeks!
Love, Mrs. Salerno

Classroom happenings

We have had a very busy end of winter and start of spring but I'll admit I have not been great about updating this blog...
Here are some photos from our DASH program which ran with the help of some wonderful parent volunteers! Thank you everyone who helped make this possible.

Oops-a late science share!

We have been SO busy these past few weeks! I thought I posted some photos of the amazing Traveling Science Workshop we had from the Acton Discovery Museum. Our in house learning took place in the art room and was so incredible the kids wanted to stay after school to continue learning! Our teacher from the museum told us that their location has just gone through a huge expansion and renovation and will open later this spring.

Check it out: http://www.discoverymuseums.org/

We also had a blast at our Play Day this past Wednesday and at our 100th Day of School celebration on Friday the 9th. I will download some picture of both this week and post them for you to see.
Love will be in the air for Valentine's Day on Wednesday and on Friday afternoon we will head out for February vacation! Thank you for all you have been doing to prepare your child for the weather and for all of the fun we have had in the classroom thanks to your at home work to help them get ready!
